usually through a layout.. you go and pick the layout from a site like pimpmyspace.com and copy and paste the code it gives you to the about me section of your profile (you have to click on edit profile when on your home page)

For hearts you put in %26amp; and in between it you put in Hearts and at the end you put in ; No spaces thought so it'll look like this 閳?But I don't know how to do the stars and diamonds. Sorry :[
